EatinEatOut : Spring 2013
WWW.EATINEATOUT.CA 63 4. WHICH THREE BLOGS DO YOU FOLLOW/ARE OBSESSED WITH/CAN'T LIVE A DAY WITHOUT? You know, it's funny, I can rightly say I don't have blogs that I obsess over because I'm so obsessed with cooking, but there are blogs that I really love: Design Sponge, The Sartorialist, and Roost. WHAT IS THE ONE KITCHEN TOOL YOU COULD NEVER GIVE UP? My rolling pin. WHAT DISH ARE YOU OBSESSED WITH MASTERING THAT YOU JUST CAN'T GET QUITE RIGHT? Hmmm, well the one that took me the longest to master is definitely gluten-free puff pastry. It was my white whale and I chased it on and off for a couple of years. WHAT DID YOU HAVE FOR DINNER LAST NIGHT? Homemade gluten-free mac and cheese (my son's current favorite from my forthcoming book), an organic salad made with greens from Springdale Farm (right down the road from my apartment!), and crispy chicken thighs (my all-time favorite part of the bird). WHAT'S ONE SECRET TALENT OUTSIDE OF THE KITCHEN NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT YOU: I can touch my tongue to my nose! YOU'RE HAPPIEST WHEN COOKING/EATING: I'm happiest when I'm cooking for the people I love and because I'm a baker, homemade gluten-free bread is my favorite thing to make. I just mastered a rustic hearth bread that tastes just as good as the ones you can get from high-end bakeries. And nothing beats the smell of homemade bread wafting through your house! THE ONE SECRET INGREDIENT TO YOUR SUCCESS IS: Never, never, never give up! Absolutely be- lieve in yourself and always see a set back as an opportunity to better yourself. I guess that is more like three secret ingredients, but, I was never very good at math. ANY FINAL TIPS FOR BUDDING BLOGGERS? Have a really clear vision of what it is you want to put out there and go after it with every thing you've got! Oh, and find a really trust-worthy programmer to help you bring it to life.
